Consulting with Dr. Goodman
Everything is interconnected
Everything in the world—from our bodies, to companies, to economies, to social and political systems—is interconnected and interdependent. Sustainably improving any system must take into account this truth.
The Future of organizations
I believe the future of organizations—businesses, sports teams, governments, and other complex systems—will more closely resemble nature. Cooperation, trust, compassion, purpose, and self-organization will become more prominent features of work and life.
My Approach
My consulting work focuses on creating systemic change.
This often begins by shifting the mindset and behaviors of people within the organization; sustainable change flows from the inside-out. I help leaders re-imagine themselves, the nature and purpose of their work, and the frameworks and skills they use to manage obstacles.
I also help people work with people; relationships are integral to the health and success of organizations. Drawing on my background as a clinical psychologist, I teach people how to get the most out of their colleagues by communicating more effectively, building trust, managing conflict, and enhancing engagement. Systemic change depends on collaborative, authentic, and trusting relationships.
I integrate behavioral science, systems science, and team science into my work. Consulting, workshops, and retreats typically consist of a blend of fun, interactive exercises and space for reflection, bonding, and goal setting.
“Matt Goodman is the real deal. As we prepared an in-person retreat for our mission-driven team, we recognized that everyone had been working hard and carrying a lot of emotional and psychological heaviness that can result from supporting others to counteract health inequities. We simply needed a space for each of us to decompress, reflect, and practice self-compassion. With his presence, grace and skill, Matt facilitated an engaging and moving session that enabled everyone to breathe, slow down, practice mindfulness, and care for ourselves. He helped set the tone for an incredible team retreat. We’re absolutely happy and honored to recommend Matt to others.”
“The team bonding that took place during the retreat was truly at an all-time high. Dr. Goodman’s careful planning and thoughtful approach created an environment that fostered collaboration, trust, and open communication among all of us. The activities and discussions were not only fun and engaging but also deeply meaningful and reflective. It was remarkable to witness how everyone’s contributions came together to make the day truly special. The retreat has undoubtedly strengthened our relationships and created a solid foundation for future collaboration.”
“I have recently collaborated with Matthew on a project and can highly recommend him. He is engaging and knowledgeable and will bring a lot of added value to any organization or team wanting to use mindfulness and brain-based science to improve outcomes. ”
“In December 2020, we asked Dr. Matthew Goodman to share his insights about mindfulness and self-care to our Healthcare Leadership Academy cohort, comprised of physician, nursing, and administrative leaders. His style, research, message, and insights were all very well-received. Dr. Goodman’s expertise and experience has been such a welcome resource during these difficult times. He exudes a calming presence, and in combination with his message, underscores the value of these skills and techniques especially when external events are unstable and uncertain. ”
